Clamore Café is a specialty coffee shop created by Michael Barriga and Wendy Valverde, a married couple with years of experience in the coffee world. Before opening the café, they had already been training baristas since 2011 through the Peruvian Coffee School and the Barista School, which explains the strong educational approach and technical knowledge that can be felt from the very beginning.
The shop opened in February 2020, right as the pandemic began. It wasn’t the easiest time to launch a food and beverage business, but they adapted quickly. Selling roasted coffee in bags became key to staying active and maintaining a connection with customers. Over time, the project grew stronger and today they operate two locations in Lima.
The Jesús María location is spacious and spread across three floors. The atmosphere is comfortable, with soft background music that makes conversation easy. It works well for different plans: meeting friends, going out with a partner, spending time with family, or even sitting down to work for a while. It never feels rushed or noisy; instead, it invites people to stay.
One of the most distinctive details is how the specialty coffee is prepared. When a brew method is ordered, a barista approaches the table with a mobile cart, introduces the beans, explains their origin and flavor profile, and prepares the coffee right in front of the guest. This direct interaction makes the experience feel more personal and helps create a better understanding of what’s behind each cup.
Clamore works with around 15 different coffee suppliers from several regions of Peru, including Cajamarca, Cerro de Pasco, Amazonas, Cusco, and Puno. This variety allows for a wide range of flavor profiles and showcases the diversity of Peruvian coffee depending on origin and processing.
To complement the drinks, the menu also includes breakfast options and fresh beverages. The order included a vegetarian breakfast, an American breakfast, cappuccinos instead of regular American coffee, and pineapple juice. Everything was well presented, and the coffee stood out for its balanced flavor, good texture, and proper temperature — the kind of cup that doesn’t need anything added.
Clamore ends up being the kind of coffee shop people return to not just for the coffee, but for the overall experience: thoughtful service, skilled baristas, and a relaxed space to enjoy coffee without rushing. A solid option for anyone looking for well-prepared specialty coffee and a comfortable atmosphere in the city.
