Caleta Dolsa, Barranco

Caleta Dolsa has that relaxed, beachy concept you notice as soon as you walk in. It’s the kind of café where you simply sit down and take it easy. The name fits perfectly: in Peru, caleta refers to something hidden or secret, and dolsa, in Catalan, means sweet. In the end, it really does feel like that — a small sweet spot tucked away in the middle of the city.
They first opened in November 2018 with their original location in Barranco, and over the years they expanded to San Isidro as well. From the beginning, they’ve focused on working with Peruvian coffee origins and giving the beans the spotlight. Last year, they featured coffees from Cajamarca, specifically Huabal in Jaén, highlighting local profiles and reminding you that great coffee also comes from home.
The space really complements the experience: lots of natural light, wood details, comfortable tables, and a calm atmosphere that feels like summer all year round. It works just as well for getting some work done, catching up with friends, or sitting down for a long breakfast. Everything feels simple, with no fuss or pretension.
To drink, a cappuccino served with water and a fresh mango, pineapple, and orange juice. To eat, pancakes that I really enjoyed, topped with honey and fruits like blueberries, house-made frosting, mango, banana, and strawberries, plus a sourdough toast with avocado, cherry tomatoes, and egg. Everything tasted really good — simple, well-made flavors that just hit the spot.
In the end, Caleta Dolsa is the kind of place you come back to because you feel comfortable: good Peruvian coffee, tasty food, and a relaxed setting where you can just hang out without overthinking it.
