Casona Ofelia, Barranco

Casona Ofelia is a specialty coffee shop located in Barranco, operating inside a house that is over 112 years old and still preserves its original structure. This is not a grab-and-go café. The experience is built around sitting down, ordering coffee, and staying as long as you need.

The project was created by Daniella Salomón Salazar and Gerónimo Llontop Parodi, and from the start, coffee was clearly the focus. The menu works well for different moments of the day, from breakfast and brunch to afternoon drinks. It doesn’t try to impress with too many options. It aims to be consistent. Coffee is the center, and everything else is organized around it.

During this visit, I ordered a mango açaí bowl with mixed berries. It was well portioned, fresh, and not overly sweet. I also had the French toast with berries and honey—straightforward, not too sugary, and properly executed. To drink, I chose a coffee beverage with cinnamon. The coffee was balanced, and the cinnamon didn’t overpower it. It paired well with the food.

The space is quiet and well laid out. There are comfortable tables, natural light, and no unnecessary noise. There’s movement outside; inside, it doesn’t get in the way.

On the first floor, the walls usually feature works by local artists. They’re not there as decoration and don’t change how the place functions. They add to the space without taking focus away from the coffee. On the second floor, there is a gallery area where different artists’ work is exhibited, reinforcing the cultural side of the project without disrupting the café experience.

The house is also used for creative gatherings, presentations, and activities connected to art and fashion, but the place doesn’t lose its main purpose. First and foremost, it’s still a café.

Casona Ofelia works when what you want is to sit down, eat something well made, and drink coffee without rushing, in a comfortable and well-thought-out space. It doesn’t rely on trends. It’s consistent, and that matters.
